Old Shasta and Whiskeytown Lake

July 14, 2016
We were headed out to Whiskeytown Lake today to play in the lake, when mom decided to stop by Old Shasta State Historical Park.  Everytime we head to Whiskeytown we ask about the ruins we see in Old Shasta.  Today mom thought this would be a great chance to check it out before it got to warm. Our first stop was the ice house.
Then we went and looked at all the store front ruins and read about the history of Old Shasta which was a gold mining town.
This one you could go in a little bit and explore.
I wonder what is behind these big iron doors.
We enjoyed going out onto the boardwalks to look around and read up.
There was a fire that came through Old Shasta destroying some of the town which was then rebuilt as the gold dried up people headed elsewhere to find gold leaving the town of Old Shasta to go into disrepair.
We crossed the street and walked down to the old historic barn.
We were excited to go and see what was in the barn.
We found this old hay wagon.  Now all we need is some horses to pull us!
Inside the barn the stage coach was housed.  After the barn we headed over to see the outside of the blacksmith shop.  Next to it you were able to go into the general store which was very interesting and lastly we saw the bakery.  It was a fun and educational pit stop.
By the time we got to the lake we were ready to jump right in and cool off!
I had a great time swimming around in the water.
This water feels so good!
I played in the sand for a little bit.
Someone brought this turtle which was a blast to play on.
I took my turn on the turtle.
Collin and I enjoyed our lunch together.
It was a fun day at the lake and Old Shasta!
